Founded in 1957 by a UNESCO mission, the Department of Sociology at the University of Dhaka has since pioneered the study of Sociology in Bangladesh, ultimately setting the development discourses for the country by creating critical debates on relevant issues. This book highlights the overall contribution of the Department in nation-building, and the Department’s commitment to reaching international standards and audiences.
The collection of articles in this book is an important compilation as it is the first one of its kind since the Department’s foundation. These carefully selected essays reflect the evolution of sociological thought in Bangladesh, and the latest developments in sociology as a discipline. In addition to sociology, this book provides food for thought for researchers, teachers, and enthusiastic readers of many related disciplines including anthropology, economics, development studies, political science, and public health.
