Quazi Nooruzzaman wrote these essays in the mid-to late 80’s, in Bangladesh, after having been imprisoned for six months, earlier in 1982, for similar writings against the regime of that time. The essays continue his critical analysis of various issues, and outspoken disapproval of that regime. Remarkably, the essays continue to have a current relevance in the national and international contexts. The first essay states the author\'s main objective of demanding a social revolution, bypassing the pretences of a so-called democratic transition. The subsequent essays are on a variety of topics : Corruption, Student Politics, Religious Fundamentalism, Language Issues, Elections, Floods, all focused on the situation in Bangladesh at the time. Two other essays have an international focus, one on ‘World-Domination by Imperialism’ and the other on ‘Regional Co-operation’. There is a unifying theme of being concerned for the vast majority of people, who are exploited and oppressed by a small minority of the privileged and powerful. The class analysis describes relationships between social groups in terms of domination and subversion, to explain exploitation and oppression. The author reaches the conclusion for a social revolution, saying that class privileges must end, and the world can be directed by popular opinion. About translator: Mr. Zahiruddin M.
