Poverty and unemployment have posed a serious threat to Indian planning. In fact, poverty remains the biggest Challenge to India's developmental efforts to bring about a perceptible change in the quality of life of its teeming millions. Likewise, unemployment is also a serious problem in our programmes of social justice and income distribution warranting a direct attack on it. Various attempts have been made so far to eradicate poverty and generate unemployment in the Five-Year Plants.

About the Author Subah Sigh Yadav obtained his M.A. (Economics) degree from University of Rajasthan in 1977 and M. Phil from JNU in 1979. He started his professional career as lecturer in Economics from Delhi University 1977 and switched over to Rajasthan Educational Service in 1978. Shri Yadav has developed expertise in 'Rural Development' and 'Development Planning'. A prolific writer, he has to his credit more than 150 articles in various journals of national repute which earned awards for him from the Government of India. He further crowned his achievements by publishing invaluable books on Rural Development, Planning and Development in India, Social Banking, Agricultural Economy, Indian Education etc. Shri Yada has participated in number of conferences, seminars and symposia.
Ram Kumar Gurjarearned his M. Phil (topped with credit marks) and Ph. D. with an expert knowledge on the Indira Gandhi Canal Command Area. Dr. Gurjar has the distinction of being selected for various reputed international and national Institutes. Currently he s teaching in the Department of Geography, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Dr. Gurjar is the author of various valuable books and research papers. He has successfully completed research projects sponsored by the International Fund for Agriculture development, Rome, UGC, ICSSR, New Delhi. Currently he is engaged in another UGC major project.
