As Artemis Fowl, a juvenile criminal genius, sets out with his bodyguard Butler to rescue his father, his plans are upset by the LEPrecon.
In the fairy world trouble is brewing, as the goblins are arming themselves with weaponry powered by human made batteries. As these batteries are considered contraband in their land, the LEPrecon suspect that the goblins are being helped by a human.
Captain Holly Short of LEPrecon, who was previously kidnapped by Artemis, at once suspects him. And so, as Artemis is making preparations to get his father back, he is taken underground and interviewed by the LEPrecon.
Artemis is soon cleared of complicity in the goblin plot. Commander Root of the LEPrecon tells Artemis that if he helps them find the person who is helping the goblins, then they will in turn help Artemis rescue his father.
Their investigation leads them on a long and dangerous path, but at last they find out the mastermind behind the plot. Holly Short, Root, Artemis and Butler then decide to find a way to break into the criminals’ headquarters, The Koboi Industries.
