Summary of the Book Conor is a young boy living on the Saltee Islands, a monarchy off the Irish coast. It’s the 1890s, and Conor spends his time studying the mechanics of flight with his teacher and enjoys exploring the castle with Princess Isabella. However, this peaceful life seems doomed. Conor discovers a plot to kill the king. Conor’s attempts to save him end in his being branded a traitor. He is cast into prison on Little Saltee, destined to fight for his life as he is forced to work as a diamond miner in the dismal mines. There is no way out of this prison by sea.
